The Corridor Hidden in the Rain

Rain pressure, root-raft height, and the old sensor readings were all changing at Flower-Nose Rainforest Window. Monsoon Flower-Nosed Flying Foxes glided low through the break in the rain. Their pale leaf-shaped nose pads found floral scent, and their long chest fur carried pollen, yet the entire group turned away from the stilted seed vault. Fang set a thin sampling film beneath the route to catch only pollen that fell on its own. I stayed low at the tower footing and listened with passive instruments. The detour was not disorder. It was a reading.

Field Observation

We climbed from the north edge of the seed rafts onto the stilted walkway and entered the first stable canopy rain gap at Flower-Nose Rainforest Window. At noon, we followed the closed walkway to the tower footing at Stilted Seed-Vault Corridor, collecting only pollen that had fallen naturally onto the railing. In the evening, after isolating the resonant brace from the outer maintenance ledge, we withdrew to the observation position at Upwind Roosting Frame.

Morning · Flower-Nose Rainforest Window

Fang separated three forms of evidence: the nose pads' response to wind pressure, the sources of the pollen, and the flight line through the rain window. I marked load points, waterlines, and our retreat route from the outside. All active weapons stayed stowed. The bats passed safely overhead. We did not enter their airspace or ask them to change direction.

Noon · Stilted Seed-Vault Corridor

The pollen film showed that the group had once used this canopy corridor to pollinate the seed vault. Fang collected only the grains already resting on the railing. I placed a passive vibration sensor against the tower footing and found the city's pump pulse traveling up an artificial brace, amplified through the structure. The bats had not abandoned the seedbank. Our equipment had turned their route into noise.

Evening · Upwind Roosting Frame

We isolated the faulty resonant brace and changed nothing in the animals' route. Then we withdrew. When the frame quieted, the flying foxes crossed the canopy rain window again, carrying pollen in their chest fur toward the floating seed rafts. We did not close the rain or call the bats back. We removed the interference and let the corridor return.

Habitat Causality

Rain-season flowers across the canopy and floating seed rafts depend on a stable wind-pressure corridor for pollination. The city's fixed Low-Frequency Flood Pump sent vibration through a brace at the stilted seed vault, where the structure amplified it into the bats' flight path. The group detoured around the tower, breaking the pollination route. Isolating only the artificial brace removed the amplified pulse and restored the rain window without altering the animals or the canopy.

Species Behavior

Monsoon Flower-Nosed Flying Foxes travel in pollinating groups of six to ten. Their pale leaf-shaped nose pads distinguish floral scent through heavy rain, while long chest fur carries pollen between feeding sites. They cross only canopy rain windows with stable wind pressure. When low-frequency vibration disturbed the tower corridor, the group avoided it together; once the vibration ended, it resumed the route on its own.
