Habitat and Mechanism
Turquoise geothermal pools and sheltered nursery channels inside Broken-Needle Thermal Fjord。Warm geothermal pools shelter silver-gray pups, while the adults' insulated dorsal fat ridges store geothermal heat. A pulse from the distant radar system makes every pup raise its head and lights the adults' dark crimson mineral markings, showing that the abandoned equipment reaches into the nursery.

The nursery blocks the short route toward the radar ring. By making that boundary legible, the seals force Fang and K to abandon the waterside path and choose a cableway that does not cut through the pups' habitat.

Observation Rule
Fang and K remain outside the adults' boundary, use passive and long-range instruments, keep weapons stored, and reject the shorter route through the nursery. Their marker produces neither light nor sound.
At Steam Nursery Bay, an adult gave one low call and the group formed a boundary instead of charging. Fang counted the pups while K counted the exits. They stopped outside the steam and did not make the seals repeat the warning.
