It stood broadside across the only gap between the mothers, calves, and high wall. Fang separated the herd's breathing, true microtremors, and the human-made rhythm with a distant, noninvasive BCI. I shut down every active instrument. Danger did not require an attack: if the false signal continued, the entire nursery group would mistake a closed city gate for its only retreat.

I kept all active equipment off while Fang worked beyond the territorial line. The bull held the gap without advancing. We did not need to control the herd. We needed to remove the signal that had turned a sealed gate into a false route.

The manual room still worked, but opening the gate was not the first step. Fang overlaid the Rift-Listening Wild Dog Pack's restored safety rhythm with the horn resonance and found a thirty-seven-second interval without natural microtremors. I cut the geothermal beacon output, then raised the gate only far enough to release cold mist. The bull lifted its crown and the pale heat-release windows along its neck opened one by one, but it did not move. Only when recharge water reached the dry pools did the cows allow their calves to approach the gate line. We used no weapons and forced no formation. We removed the city's false earthsong from their path.
Evening · Earthsong Recharge Plain
Once the first cold pool returned, the herd began to cross in maternal order. Calves stayed inside the formation. Adult cows used their immense crowns to keep them away from the sulfur-spring edge, and the gate-guarding bull left the dike last. Their steps shook the mud without striking the wall, a person, or another animal. Fang watched Salt-Porcelain Seed Beetles return to the hoofprints and said the route could finally work by itself again. I reset the sluice to open only when natural microtremors and cold-water level both allowed it.
Habitat Causality
The corridor depends on underground cold-water recharge, intact cold pools, salt-tolerant grass bands, true microtremors, and a safe interval through the high-dike gate. The fixed geothermal pulse overlaid the ground's real signal, while closed recharge infrastructure dried the pools and trapped the herd against the wall. Cutting the false output and opening Ninth Condensation Sluice in stages restored cold mist and recharge water without driving the animals. After the herd crossed, dung in its tracks again supplied seed-rich material to Salt-Porcelain Seed Beetles, reconnecting grass growth, footing, forage, and the ancient migration route.
Species Behavior
The eleven-meter bovids read subsurface heat veins through resonance in their double horn crowns. Pale neck windows release body heat, and vast split hooves spread pressure across hot mud. When false tremors threaten calves, the bull blocks the remaining gap rather than charging. During passage, calves remain inside, cows shield them from sulfur-spring edges, and the bull leaves last. The herd chooses whether and when to cross.
